History
(A short history of St Anthony's Catholic Parish, Alexandra Hills)

The Early Days
St Anthony's Catholic Parish was formed as the second Catholic Parish in the Redlands. Father Paul Rooney was appointed by Archbishop Francis Rush in January 1979.

The first Mass was celebrated at Alexandra Hills State School on the Feast of the Epiphany 1979, with the first Mass on site being celebrated on Holy Thursday 1979 in the relocated building that had started life as an Army hut, then a class room and later as the Church of St Martina, Milson Street, Coorparoo. Since the opening of the present church on 28th November 1981 by Bishop John Gerry, the "old" church has served as class rooms and as a community hall.

The first pastoral worker, Mary Kent, commenced service in late 1979 and became the first pastoral associate for this Parish.

The first Pastoral Council was appointed in September 1985.

St Anthony's school commenced in January 1980 and was officially opened by Archbishop Francis Rush on 9th March 1980. Sister Kieran McNamara of the Presentation Order was appointed the first Principal with Sister Suzanne Walpole as APRE.

Growth
Due to the population explosion/increase in the St Anthony's parish community, the Catholic Parish of St Luke's Capalaba was formed in march 1987.

With further population increase the Catholic Parish of Mary MacKillop was formed.

Outreach
The brothers of the Society of Christian Doctrine who are based in St Anthony's Parish have worked with the youth in this Parish and also across other Parishes in the Deanery.

Padua Place, opened on the 11th of June 1994, provides low income, long term housing for people of the Redlands district. This facility consists of 14 units of 1,2 and 3 bedrooms.

Moving on
Father Paul Rooney retired from St Anthony's Parish on the 31st of August 2004. Mary Kent also retired at this time.

On the 1st of September 2004 Father Peter McCarthy was appointed Parish Priest of St Anthony's while continuing his role as Parish Priest of St Luke's Capalaba.

Noreen Owens was appointed the Pastoral Associate for the Parishes of St Anthony's and St Luke's on the 1st of December 2004.

The Parish Centre of St Anthony and St Luke was officially opened by Bishop Ray Benjamin, the retired Bishop of Townsville, on 30th October 2005.

2006 and Beyond
